QUINCY – Two Quincy pitchers combined for four hitless innings on Saturday as it was the Village 10U that beat the Union City-based LB Cannons 10U to win by the score of 15-2.
The Village scored early and often in the win, posting five runs in the first, second and third innings. Quincy managed to beat the LB Cannons 7-0, but thanks to a handful of steps, the Cannons were able to score twice in the contest, once in the second set and once in the fourth.
The Village scored first after charging the bases with three straight walks to start the game. Connor Hagaman gutted those bases with a base-loaded brace, scoring all three points to give his side a 3-0 lead. Wyatt P would hit a fielder’s pick two batters later, allowing Hagaman to score, followed by a fielder’s pick by Jefferson Wright, allowing Anderson S to score, giving The Village a 5-0 lead.
The Cannons added a run early in the second inning on two walks, an error and a fielder’s choice, closing the score at 5-1 after the start of the second.
The Village came back with five more runs late in the second, an inning that started with a big home run from Kaleb R, taking the lead to 6-1. After the bases were again charged for three straight walks, Harrison M hit a field single, scoring Paxton Mowan, extending the lead to 7-1. An error by Max W, followed by a defensive pick for Kye Dirschell and a defensive pick for Connor Hagaman gave the Village a 10-1 lead.
Late in the third inning, The Village added five more runs thanks to an RBI brace from Wyatt P; a starting defensive pick from Paxton Mowan, an RBI single from Harrison M and a bases-loaded walk drawn by Max Woodward, pushing the lead to 15-1.
The Cannons added one more point in the top of the fourth, but it was far too little too late as it was the Village that took the 15-2 victory and the championship.
Kye Dirschell took the win on the mound for The Village after pitching two innings to start, allowing no hits and one unearned run with five walks and one strikeout.
Jefferson Wright pitched solidly in relief, throwing two complete innings without a hit, an unearned run and three walks with one strikeout.
Kaleb R brought the big bat for The Village, going 1 for 1 with a solo home run, a walk, an RBI and two runs scored. Harrison M also added to the offensive onslaught for The Village with two singles, two Rbis, a walk and two runs scored; Max Woodward with two walks, two Rbis and a run scored; Kye Dirschell with a walk, an RBI and a run scored; Connor Hagaman with a brace, four Rbis and a run scored; Anderson S with a single, a walk and two runs scored; Wyatt P with a double, two Rbis and a run scored; Jefferson Wright with a single, an RBI and a run scored; Kaleb R with a single, a walk, an Rbi and two runs scored; Paxton Mowan with a scored RBI, walk and run; Bentley S with two walks and two runs scored; and Easton S with two walks and a run scored.
