In-person registration for Hessville Little League begins Saturday: Hammond’s Hessville Little League will have in-person softball and baseball registrations at the Jean Shepard Center, 3031 JF Mahoney Dr., Hammond. Times and dates are 1-3 p.m. Saturday; 6-9pm March 18; and from noon to 3 p.m. on March 19. Open to girls ages 4-16 and boys ages 4-12 who live in Hammond and also in the town of Griffith. The cost is $80 for T-ball and $120 for softball and baseball. All new players must bring their original birth certificate and proof of residency. Crown Point Adult Baseball League: Registration is open for the Crown Point Parks Department Adult Spring/Summer Baseball League. Open to players 19 and older, each team is scheduled for 18 games, plus a double-elimination tournament. Matches begin in May and will be played each weekday at Crown Point Sportsplex’s Legacy Fields. The deadline for registration is April 15. Learn to Make the Call at the State Arbitration Clinic March 27: A national Babe Ruth baseball umpire/coach clinic will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on March 27 at Legacy Field, Crown Point. Registration begins at 9 a.m. All youth league umpires and coaches, as well as anyone interested in becoming a nationally certified umpire or learning the rules of baseball, are encouraged to attend. A national open book certification test will be given to new referees. Returning referees can be recertified, but do not have to take the test. The cost for the clinic alone is $40, which includes lunch, plus $65 to take the certification test or to recertify. The Northern League is looking for broadcasting interns: The Northern League, based in the Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana area, is seeking Broadcast and Media Relations Interns for the summer 2022 season. Internship begins mid-May through late May and takes place from early to mid-August. The internship program provides hands-on experience and the opportunity to hone skills in all aspects of broadcasting and media relations. The internship is available for college credit and students pursuing a career in broadcasting or a related field are encouraged to apply. Several positions are available for the 2022 summer season. The 13-15 division will accept players from across northwest Indiana and the 16-18 division will accept players from Lake, Porter, Jasper, Newton and LaPorte counties. Spring Break Basketball Camp: Crown Point Parks Department is offering a Spring Break Basketball Camp from 10 a.m. to noon March 28-30. Open to children in grades 1-8, the program is designed to teach basic basketball principles of dribbling, passing and shooting. Each camper will participate in competitive games according to their skill level and will have the opportunity to compete in their age group. All instructions are given at Franciscan Health, Crown Point Sports Medicine Institute, Athletic Development Fieldhouse, Suite A101, 12800 Mississippi Parkway (1/2 mile east of the intersection of I-65 and Rt. 231) , Crown Point. Crown Point Junior Bulldogs Spring Flag Football Entries: The Crown Point Junior Bulldogs will play “Friday Night Lights” flag football again this spring. Registration is open to all players from kindergarten through eighth grade. Games start on April 8 and the playoffs end on May 20. There is a cap of 260 players due to field space. Crown Point Junior Bulldogs Fall 2022 Registration Begins: Registration for the Crown Point Junior Bulldogs’ 70th tackle football season is now open. The league is open to all communities. There will be flag football for players aged 5-6, with the option for 6-year-olds to play tackling football. There will be three tackle leagues: Littles (6-8), Middles (9-10), Bigs (11-13 in seventh grade). Anyone can play with a maximum weight of 250 pounds. There are six games guaranteed with all games and practices on Crown Point Junior Bulldogs grass pitches. All matches are officiated by IHSAA licensed officials. Open Skate Nights at the Midwest Training Center: The Midwest Training and Ice Center hosts open skate nights. Soft ball

Hidden Lake Adult Softball: Registration for the 2022 summer softball season is now open. The season begins May 16 with a 20-game schedule and a post-season tournament. Cost is $450 per team if paid in full by April 15; $550 by May 6. There is a “pay-at-the-plate” fee of $13 per team, per game. The men’s league plays on Mondays and/or Wednesdays, the mixed league also plays on Wednesdays. For more information, call (219) 769-2111.

Registration begins for the Highland Parks Adult Softball League: The Highland Parks Department is currently registering summer softball teams. The season runs from mid-April/May to August. Teams for double matches as well as single matches are accepted. The Parks Department offers both co-rec leagues and men’s leagues. Fridays will be used for rains and Saturdays, if necessary. HPRD reserves the right to place teams in the appropriate division. The team fee is $650 of which $325 is due at registration. Cash prize awarded. The deadline to register is March 31. Crown Point Parks Department Women’s Fastpitch League: Registration for the Crown Point Parks Department Women’s Fastpitch League is now open. All home games are played at the Sportsplex on Legacy Fields in Crown Point. Open to players aged 16 (before June 1, 2022) to adults, the season runs from the end of May to the end of July. All games were played at 8 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays. The cost is $150 per player and includes the jersey. The deadline for registration is March 10. Forrest Gump Hump Trail Run Sunday: As part of the 2022 Crazy Legs Race Series, the Forrest Gump Hump Trail Run will take place Sunday at 9 a.m. at Oak Ridge Prairie, Griffith. You may encounter mud, water, or snow when hitting the trails, and the finish line is at the top of a hill. All runners/walkers will receive a one size hat and gloves. Volleyball

Adult Spring Happy Hour Volleyball Begins March 18: The Crown Point Parks and Recreation Department’s “Tuesday and Friday Night Happy Hour” Mixed and Women’s Division Adult Volleyball League begins March 18. All divisions will play eight games plus a season-ending tournament at Ignite Volleyball Courts, 1516 North Main St., Crown Point. Cost is $325 team registration fee for Crown Point residents (within Crown Point city limits and provided 51% of team members are registered citizens) ; and $400 team registration fee for non-residents of Crown Point. Waivers and team fees must be complete by the March 16 entry deadline.
