Staten Island Little League caps 70th anniversary with annual family picnic

The Staten Island Little League opened its 70th anniversary celebration ahead of Opening Day last April and now the Loop plans to cap off the milestone with its annual family picnic on Sept. 9.

And he hopes a lot of people – including alumni – will also be there to celebrate.

“We’ve already generated a lot of interest and we hope to spread the word further,” said SILL’s Kevin Moylan, a former league president who currently sits on its board. “We would love to see a large number of alumni return.

“We will recognize our aging children and look forward to celebrating this anniversary.”

According to Moylan, the picnic will take place between noon and 6 p.m. and there will be plenty to do during those six hours. There will be live music (Johnny Fish and the Fins), kiddie rides, a skills competition and home derby for current league players, a BBQ, plenty of raffle baskets and a 50/50.

Entry fees are $25 per adult and $10 for children. Players registered for the 2022 season can enter for free.

“Seventy years is a long time, it’s a great accomplishment,” Moylan said. “We hung on with registrations and the league provides great service to our neighborhood.

“It’s something we’ve always been very proud of.”
