Red Sox Announce Big League Coaching Staff for 2022 | Sports

The Red Sox have finalized their big league coaching roster for the 2022 season, with Peter Fatse being promoted to batting coach and Ramón Vázquez to first base among the highlights.

Fatse replaces Tim Hyers, who coached the Red Sox for the past four seasons before leaving for the Texas Rangers. Under Hyers, the Red Sox boasted of the highest ranked offense in baseball between 2018-21, but Fatse also played a role in that success, as the team’s assistant hitting coach in 2020 and 2021. .

Additionally, the Red Sox also hired Luis Ortiz and Ben Rosenthal as assistant hitting coaches. Ortiz, who will also serve as a performer, was a 14-year-old professional who played 60 games with the Red Sox in 1993-94 and recently spent the last three seasons as the Rangers’ hitting coach. Rosenthal has spent the past five seasons as a minor league coach in the Houston Astros system, most recently at Triple-A Sugar Land from 2019-21.

Vázquez takes over as first baseman for Tom Goodwin after spending 2021 as a quality control coach and performer. The former big-league infielder will also coordinate the club’s basic racing instructions.

Two other staff additions include Andy Fox as Major League Field Coordinator and Mike Brenly as Major League Staff Assistant. Fox previously served as the 2011-21 minor league infield coordinator and 2019-21 assistant field coordinator, while Brenly has served as the Red Sox box receiver since 2016.

Will Venable (bench coach), Dave Bush (pitching coach), Kevin Walker (reliever box coach), Carlos Febles (third base coach) and Jason Varitek (match planning coordinator / catchers coach ) will resume their duties, Venable also coordinating field training.

“I feel fortunate to work with such a talented and diverse group of coaches,” Red Sox manager Alex Cora said. “In addition to Luis and Ben bringing new perspectives from outside our organization, I am delighted with the new opportunities presented to Pete, Ramón and Mike. Andy has been a valued member of the Red Sox for over a decade, and I I am delighted to welcome him to the Major League team. I look forward to working with this group to achieve the ultimate goal of winning another World Series. “
