PEM Bulldogs Boys basketball team off to a perfect start

PLAINVIEW, Minn. (KTTC) – PEM are off to an undefeated start to the season.

This year, the Bulldogs are 12-0. It’s their best start since the ’08-’09 season. The ‘Dogs have topped teams this year, as they’ve only had two single-digit decided games. PEM has a balanced roster that includes several guys who threaten to score in double figures every night.

The reason? Many EMP players are tri-sport athletes. Bulldogs head coach Jason Herber said 10 players played on the PEM football team that made it to the Prep Bowl, and six more played on the PEM baseball team that went to the Prep Bowl. made it to the state semifinals.

People underestimated the Bulldogs at the start of the season, but Herber says the team’s success is a result of their hard work.

“We were overlooked at first by a lot of people. It put a chip on our shoulders, especially the guys, but we knew what we were capable of and it was exciting,” Herber said. “I have to say that this football season has probably helped a bit too. The success of this postponement. They tasted success and that led directly to basketball as well.

PEM features one of the highest scoring offenses in the state of Minnesota. The Bulldogs are averaging over 73 points per game, which puts them second in the division and in the top ten in Class AA.

Plus, the ‘Dogs are tough on defense. This year, PEM is allowing just 47 points per game, which ranks in the top 5 in the state.

Add it all up and the Bulldogs started the season with a dozen straight wins, and they want to enjoy the good times as long as they last.

“It was fun. Winning 12 games in a row is important to us,” junior Aeron Stevens said. let’s go on.”

“Our goal is not to go undefeated,” Herber said. “We are not going to go undefeated. I hope I’m wrong, but I’m not. With the schedule we have, that’s not one of our goals. We know we are going to face a game where we will be beaten here, but I believe in this team that they will be able to bounce back from a loss and learn from it.

PEM returns to action on Friday when they host the La Crescent Lancers.
