MGM Resorts and MLB to team up twice in July 2022

MGM Resorts International was busy in July – having signed two deals with Major League Baseball, cementing their influence as the premier gambling operator.

MGM and MLB players

In early July, MGM Resorts announced a multi-year agreement with MLB to become the Official Partner of MLB Players Inc., giving MGM exclusive branding and marketing rights. Specifically, MGM will receive the group’s rights to a wide range of digital and print promotions as well as advertisements in the United States, China and Japan. In return, MGM Resorts will become “Official Off-Season Destinations” for MLB players, providing player benefits at their various properties.

“This agreement partners Major League Baseball Players with a company synonymous with premier hotels and entertainment,” said Evan Kaplan, Managing Director of MLB Players, Inc., “MGM Resorts’ global presence will also help strengthen allegiance between the international base of baseball fans and our players.

MLB players will also have the opportunity to enter into individual ambassador agreements to promote MGM Resorts International through word of mouth, social media, promotions, appearances and memorabilia.

“As a leader in the gaming and hospitality industry, MGM Resorts is an ideal business partner for us. This collaboration reinforces the importance of leveraging gamers to facilitate marketing initiatives,” said Xavier D James, chief operating officer of the Major League Baseball Players Association, “We look forward to building on this valuable and strategic relationship in the years to come.”

Extended MGM and MLB partnership

Two days later, MGM announced the extension of its partnership with MLB as the league’s Official Playing Partner, which they began in 2018. This partnership was renewed days before the All-Star Celebrity Softball Game on July 16, when the MGM title sponsored the event.

Under the renewed partnership, BetMGM will continue its run as the league’s Official Sportsbook Partner while marketing its brand on MLB Network, MLB.com and a variety of MLB-related apps. The deal is primarily about improving the betting experience for baseball fans and allowing fans to engage with content in a unique way. To accomplish this, MLB provides BetMGM with enhanced statistics on an exclusive basis so that the operator can provide top-notch sports betting options to MLB fans live during games. MLB.TV’s Bettor’s Eye, which airs MLB games with a sportsbook edge, is also part of the deal.

“Since the inception of this historic partnership four years ago, MGM Resorts and BetMGM have been truly collaborative and innovative business partners for Major League Baseball,” said Noah Garden, MLB chief revenue officer. “With the success of Bettor’s Eye and the introduction of All-Star Saturday’s Extra Innings concert, we look forward to seeing how MGM Resorts and BetMGM continue to expand their business with baseball.”

MGM Resorts and BetMGM in particular have shown their love and commitment to baseball in more ways than one. Besides being the official sports betting partner of MLB, it has also partnered with several teams including: Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers, Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Mets, the New York Yankees, Houston Astros and Washington Nationals. BetMGM would eventually make history by building the first retail sports betting site connected to an MLB stadium, when they did so at Nationals Park.
