Let’s talk about how Hurricane IDa affected and continues to impact sports teams in our region. We know the Saints were moved for a month because of the storm and realized that even five months later, many varsity teams are still grappling with the next day. One of the baseball practices at Gatto Community College featured players hitting home runs with tape measures and workers breaking real tape measures as they rebuilt the venerable Kirsch Rooney Stadium during Hurricane Ida, l he 65-year-old facility suffered significant damage. In fact, the day after the storm, we inspected the property with legendary head coach Joe Sherman. I lived 2.5 blocks with me. I knew it was pretty hard. Um, some of the toughest I’ve been through in my life. So we kind of knew that we would probably lose the outfield fence because of what it is. But we had no idea what the roof would be like, it looks like a scud missile in the stadium roof press box, an entire concession stand in ruins. But understand what the venue means, not just for its schedule, but for the dozens of high school teams that also played games there in the spring. Sherman Duggan and went from a baseball coach to a too busy corps to learn a lot about paperwork and patients had a lot of paperwork. There is no doubt about it. You know, state insurance is, it’s one thing and then you have to, you have to make sure you coordinate everything with the, with the cooperative effort agreement with the city. So uh, you know, it’s, it’s been a process, but one that’s finally underway. You know, we got, we got the roof up today. Uh, as soon as it’s over, the press box will start and go down to the concession stand, you know, so we are crawling. We’re not sprinting yet, but we’re on the right track making him one of the most successful coaches in all of college baseball. Very, very happy between hurricanes and Covid. I mean, baseball is something to look forward to. Our children are, today is our first day. You can tell, you know, they’re excited to run and that’s what it is. That’s why we’re here and Joe Sherman really needs to stay on top of his players and the contractors who are renovating his stadium. Dolphin season begins the first week of February at my fletcher home. Mackel WDS You News
